Live video chat with strangers: what they get, and what they never do

A stranger is about to be on your screen looking at you. Most sites sell that as a feeling. This page treats it as a question with an answer: here is precisely what the person on the other side receives, what they have no route to, and which parts of it you decide.

01 / WHAT THEY GET

Six things, and which side of the line each one is on

The binding version of all of this is in the privacy policy. This is the version you can read before you press start.

  • Your face and your voiceFor as long as the room is open. That is the product, and it is the one thing you cannot hand over halfway.
  • Whatever is behind youThe wall, the room, the window, the person walking past. Worth a glance before you press start.
  • A display name, if you set oneGuest sessions barely have one. That is the default, not a setting you have to find.
  • Your email addressNever shown to another user. It is for your account and for us reaching you, nothing else.
  • Your exact locationNot handed to the other person. Region is derived from your IP on our side; it is not a pin on a map for them.
  • Any history with youThe room stops existing when one of you leaves. There is no thread, no way back, and no record shown to either of you that you were ever paired.

02 / THE ROOM BEHIND YOU

The thing people forget is not the camera. It is the wall

Everybody thinks about their face. Almost nobody thinks about the four square metres behind it, and that is where the actual information sits: a university hoodie on a chair, a view out of a window, a delivery box with a label on it, a school uniform hanging on a door.

None of that is dramatic on its own. It becomes something when it is combined with a first name and an accent, which is roughly forty seconds of conversation. The fix costs nothing and takes one glance: turn around and look at what is in frame before you press start, the way you would before a work call.

The same applies to other people. Somebody who walks through your room has not agreed to be on camera, and putting them there breaks section 2 of the rules even when it was an accident.

03 / LEAVING

How a conversation with a stranger ends

  1. 01

You skip, and that is the whole procedure

One tap. The room closes for both of you at the same moment and the search for the next person has already started. You do not owe an explanation, and there is no mechanism for them to ask for one.

  2. 02

    Nothing follows you out

There is no thread left behind, no contact added, and no route back to that room for either side. If you want the format that does keep a thread, that is a messaging app, and this is deliberately not one.

  3. 03

If they crossed a line, report on the way out

Leave first, then report: one tap, no typing, because the session details travel attached to the report. You do not have to remember what they looked like or what time it was. What happens next is on the rules page, section 11.

04 / HONESTLY

Three things about strangers that no front page says

Most matches go nowhere, and that is the format working. People skip a handful before one lands. Reading that as a verdict on you is the single most common way to have a bad evening here, and it is wrong: the other person decided in four seconds, with no information, about somebody they will never see again.

The anonymity runs one way more than you think. They do not know your name. They are also looking at your face, which is more than most of the internet gets. Treating this as fully anonymous is the mistake; treating it as "a stranger who does not know who I am" is accurate.

We cannot promise everybody is who they appear to be. What we can do is check that a live person is in front of the camera rather than a looping video, and we describe how that check works instead of calling it advanced AI and moving on. The mechanism is in section 3 of the privacy policy, written out.

05 / FAQ

Straight answers

Is live video chat with strangers safe?

It is as safe as its reporting path, its age rule, and your own judgement about what you put on camera. Ours is 18+ and enforced, reporting takes one tap and carries the session details for you, and nudity ends a room. What no site can do is stop the person at the other end pointing a phone at their own screen, so treat anything you show as something you cannot take back.

Do they see my name or my email?

No. They see your camera and whatever display name you set, and in a guest session that is close to nothing. Your email address is never shown to another user. Section 5 of the privacy policy sets out the full split between what is visible and what is not.

Can they record me?

We do not record calls, and section 3 of the privacy policy says exactly what is and is not kept. What we cannot prevent is somebody filming their own screen with a second device, which is true of every video service ever made. Recording another person without their agreement breaks our rules and is illegal in many places, and it is worth deciding what you show on that basis.

What do I do if somebody behaves badly?

Leave the room first, then report. One tap, no typing: the session travels attached to the report, so there is nothing for you to describe or timestamp. Leaving is always available and using it is never rude.

Can I choose what kind of stranger I get?

Not right now. Matching runs random, and the reason it runs random is speed: every condition you add is another thing the matcher has to wait for. If filtering is the actual reason you came, the honest answer is that a product built around choosing will suit you better than this one does.

Do I need an account to talk to strangers here?

No. A guest session is created quietly while the page loads. Close the tab and that is the end of it, with no account of yours in a different state than it was this morning.

If the part you are unsure about is the format instead of the people, one room and two people is a separate question with its own answer. If it is the money, the price list is written down here.

Now you know what they get. The rest only happens on camera.
